We are off to a slow start for backcountry skiing here in the Wasatch. Scary avalanche conditions persist, keeping the skiing to lower angle slopes in the trees. Not a bad time to put together plans for the spring.
After bad weather thwarted our efforts 2 years ago, I’m putting together another expedition to the remote Revelation Mountains this May. This is the sponsorship proposal seeking funds and interest in the project. We’ll see what comes of it, but either way it’s good to finalize details and work out logistics.
I’ve submitted it to my sponsors, The Polartec Grant, Hans Sarri Memorial Fund Grant and the Gore Shipton-Tilman Grant. I might be able to get Powderwhore to help out as well, fingers crossed.
Most days a certain song will find it’s way into the mix, providing a soundtrack for the day. Last week I finally got out into the backcountry for the first time. For some damn reason my mind latched onto a horrifying song and wouldn’t let go. I didn’t feel it would be fair to share the video without the accompanying tune. Jonah, Judson and I had a wonderful welcome back to the backcountry despite a thin snowpack.
ENJOY!
It’s snowing hard at this very moment as I look out the office window. Time to charge up the camera batteries in preparation for charging down the slopes.
We shoot almost all winter long in order to put together 3-5min segments for each of the athlete’s. This is the full length version of my segment from Powderwhore Productions ‘The Pact’. I haven’t ever talked to anybody that loves how their segment turned out. It’s fun I get to work on putting my skiing together to music, but I feel the same way. You always want to do better, and that’s what makes us try even harder to ‘nail it’ every season. I’m pretty proud of how it did turn out though. It gets me fired up to head into the hills. I really dig the track, ‘Deer head’, we were able to get from Summerhead.
Enjoy!
I travelled and shot a ton with my friend, the up and coming photographer, Jay Beyer. HERE are some of my favorites from last winter.
Thanks Jay!
