Might be too late in the season to pull this off, but Darrell Finlayson is helping me shuttle snowmobiles tonight so Andrew McLean and I can attempt the full Uintah Highline traverse. Might have to pull the plug depending on what we find this evening. The plan is to start at Leidy Peak trailhead tomorrow morning and travel east to west until we hit Mirror Lake. We’re going with ultra-light ski gear and a minimal camping set-up, planning to sleep a night or two if need be.
We should be on the route by mid morning on Tuesday. You can follow the Spot beacon HERE. We’ll turn on the beacon once we arrive at Leidy Peak. I thought it would be fun to place bets on the duration for those of you playing along at home or the office. We’ll start the timer at Leidy Peak and finish at Mirror Lake. Just post your guess on the comments of my blog and I’ll give away a $50 gift cert to Backcountry.com to the winner. Posts must be made by Tuesday at noon. Once someone has posted a time it’s theirs, you can’t choose that time, or your guess will be thrown out. The route is roughly 70 miles with 15,000 feet of elevation gain and descent. Good luck to us all!
THIS IS BULLSHIT WE WANT GIFTS
Sorry everybody, we got around to the east side about 9K and the snow was just too wet and sloppy. We considered pushing on, but it would have been really slow going and Andrew had to be back on Friday.
I realize I’m a few hours late, but I’ll guess 32 hours. Good luck!
