fundraiser for jim harris

The past several years I’ve been on some incredible trips and fun adventures all over the world, many of them with local Wasatch photographer Jim Harris. There are few photographers with all the required skills to travel safely and quickly in the mountains in winter. And even fewer that can let the action happen, capture it as it is, and come away with incredible stuff instead of manipulating and “faking” shots. When I first read Jim’s trip report from the Wrangell’s traverse, it made me want to adventure, it made me want to write, and I knew I wanted to get out into the mountains with him. I’ve been lucky enough to do that on many grand occasion now from unexplored ranges in Alaska to bunking up for a wild ride on a cruise ship in Antarctica.  Whatever he does and wherever he goes he brings the stoke and passes it along in all his talents.

A few months ago Jim suffered some spinal and cranial trauma from an accident while preparing for a Trans-Patagonia expedition in Punta Arenas, Chile. He has incurred huge travel and medical expenses to return to the states and to return to health. He was scheduled to present a slideshow at Snowbird, but he’s currently in Denver working hard on rehab, so a few of us have been asked to cover for him. I’ve been invited to recount some of our time together using the images he’s captured. His current challenge of regaining his legs and mobility is more inspiring than anything else he’s done and I’m happy I get to be part of it through this  fundraising effort.
