Jonah and I did some ski testing for Voile this weekend at Snowbird. Conditions were better than we’d thought they might be. And after staring at the “forbidden fruit” like Pipeline and Red Stack all day I decided I needed to return.
Yesterday morning Jason and I headed up for a north facing lap or two off Red Stack. If not for good skiing, then at least to check out a new area.
We toured up the ski area and after a few friendly nods from some snowcat drivers we felt better about our “trespassing”. Jason picked up a few pieces of trash just for good measure.
The ridge was a mix of punchy snow and easy rock scrambling.
It’s hard to see winter go, this will most likely be my last day of the season skiing in the Wasatch.
We both have the same ability to lie to ourselves about conditions, believe it, and ski it anyway.
There was a light surface refreeze that put a breakable cap on the mucky snowpack.
Not worth another lap, we quickly decided.
Cool little area to ski and good to catch up with Jason. Packing up to climb taller peaks, ski deeper snow, and maybe eat some guinea pig. Farewell Wasatch!
