Today we had a great plan, but it didn’t really happen. I’m not going to give away the shot we wanted to ski, but we ended up climbing and skiing this fun little line off the south west ridge of Timpanogos.

The day started out of Provo Canyon. The Utah County boys leading the charge in their backyard- Andy and Jason Dorais along with Matt Galland. We followed some hiking trails, then game trails…

then just lots of this.

There was a clean slide-path up a sister chute so we took it.

Nice to get up and out of the fog and smog in the valley.

It’s pretty nasty right now! This is the smelter in Provo, still churning out the shit.

The travel was a little rough and the sun was baking the snow pretty quick. We were falling behind schdule.

The reality set in that we were just too late to go any higher if we wanted to ski out in good snow. If we dropped soon we could still get some good corn, but not our objective.

The timing was spot on. Great corn harvest with incredible views of the valley and Cascade Peak.

Crazy fast transition from powder a few days ago to high quality spring corn today! The upper ridge was perfection, but that didn’t last long.

The chute had avalanched. Matt working through the soft debris.

The snow was great all the way to the car, unfortunately it was grown in with some very unfriendly bushes, but we didn’t let them get in the way.

Not what we were shooting for, but being flexible in the mountains is key. We managed a 4,500 foot run of the shoulder of one of the iconic Wasatch peaks. Another new area for me with huge thanks to the Dorais Bros and Matt for showing me around!
